Here is my newest digital piece, I call it Blame. It was created from various photos, textures, and hand drawn elements, and I first featured the walkthrough on my Tumblr page. Here is the full piece, and the steps that I used to get there.

The first step, the original photo:

Second step, adding some bling.

I thought the chain would look cool. Half of what I do in art is just so that it looks “cool”.

 blame-tutorial3

This other chain, and the rough door background, added a nice dramatic touch.

 blame-tutorial4

Here I’ve added wires and some mechanics to the upper left, and I did a bit of burning and erasing of the last texture to match.

 blame-tutorial5

I put this texture over things, and set it’s layer blending mode to “Color Burn”.

 blame-tutorial6

I added the green from a door photo, with the rivets in the door masked out in the background area.

 blame-tutorial7

I use the same door photo, a bit smaller and with the rivets showing, as texture on the forehead and nose.

 blame-tutorial8

A photo I took at a Budweiser plant becomes industrial texture in the background, masked around her head.

 blame-tutorial9

Adding another photo to the background area, this time of the view under a Caterpillar excavator, sets the mood a bit more.

 blame-tutorial10

I squash a texture photo of dirt and rocks into the top part, and set the blending mode to “Color Dodge”.

 blame-tutorial11

I like the effect, so I add a few more textures and VOILA! New art by me. What do you think?
